Shoulder instability, shoulder dislocation
Surgery is recommended if the shoulder dislocates repeatedly or if there is a high risk of recurrent dislocations in young, sporty or professionally active people. Persistent symptoms despite conservative treatment also speak in favour of surgery.
Stabilisation is usually carried out using minimally invasive arthroscopy, in which the torn capsular structures are reattached to the glenoid cavity. An open surgical procedure may be necessary in the case of simultaneous fractures to the glenoid cavity or humeral head.
After the procedure, the arm is stabilised for a certain period of time to support healing. This is followed by physiotherapy aftercare tailored to the patient's needs, which gradually restores the arm's mobility and function.
