Osteoarthritis / artificial joint replacement
If conservative therapies and arthroscopic procedures no longer provide sufficient relief and there is pain both on exertion and at rest, the use of an artificial shoulder joint is recommended.
Depending on the situation, it may be necessary to perform a partial or total joint replacement. The procedure is usually performed on an inpatient basis. The chosen prosthesis model is customised to the individual needs and lifestyle of the person affected.
After the operation, the shoulder is immobilised for a certain period of time to support the healing process. Physiotherapy is started soon after the operation to promote mobility. Rehabilitation is individualised and continues until the shoulder is fully functional again. The return to professional activities and physical exertion is gradual, depending on the progress of healing.
In the video, we show how advanced joint wear in the shoulder is treated with a modern artificial joint replacement. You will see how the procedure is planned, which technique is used and how aftercare is organised.
