Meniscus damage

Knie

Meniscus damage can be caused by accidents or wear and tear. Those affected often experience pain, swelling or a pinching sensation in their knee.

An operation is recommended if discomfort persists or if there is an entrapment. Minor damage can initially be treated conservatively.

The procedure is performed using arthroscopy. The injured part of the meniscus is removed or, if the situation allows, sutured.

After partial removal of the meniscus, we recommend two days of partial weight bearing. After a meniscus suture, six weeks of partial weight bearing is required.
