Nerve congestion syndromes

Hand

The most common nerve impingement syndromes in the hand include carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome (at the elbow) and pronator teres syndrome. They are caused by pressure on a nerve and lead to tingling, numbness or muscle weakness.

Surgery is recommended if there is significant loss of sensation, pain or the onset of paralysis. Only early treatment can prevent the nerve from being permanently damaged. The diagnosis is usually confirmed neurologically before the operation.

The affected nerve is carefully exposed and relieved of pressure so that it can recover. The surrounding tissue is treated as gently as possible.

Special aftercare is usually not required. The hand remains freely movable after the operation, only the wound is protected until the stitches are removed.
