Osteoarthritis of the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe (hallux rigidus)

Fuss

In hallux rigidus, the cartilage in the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe wears away, causing pain and restricted movement. Rolling the foot becomes particularly difficult.

If pain and stiffness increase and walking is impaired, surgery is recommended.

In cases of mild osteoarthritis, unwanted bone growths are removed and mobility is improved. In cases of advanced wear and tear, the joint is stiffened to permanently eliminate pain.

After healing, the foot can bear full weight again. A special shoe mould can provide additional support for the movement sequence.
