Dislocation of the peroneal tendon

The peroneal tendons run along the outside of the ankle joint and stabilise the foot. Injuries can cause them to jump out of their guide and dislocate chronically.

Surgery is necessary if conservative treatments do not bring any improvement or if there is a chronic misalignment.

Depending on the findings, the tendons are fixed or their guides deepened to prevent them from popping out again.

The joint is relieved and immobilised for a certain period of time. Physiotherapy treatment usually begins at an early stage. Rehabilitation usually takes several weeks.
