Cartilage damage to ankle joint

Fuss

The cartilage covers the joint surfaces and acts as a buffer. Damage is caused by injuries or wear and tear and leads to pain and swelling.

If conservative treatments do not help, surgery is recommended to smooth or regenerate the cartilage.

Depending on the findings, arthroscopic smoothing, stimulation drilling or cartilage replacement procedures are used.

After treatment, partial weight-bearing is required for a certain period of time. This may take a little longer for certain procedures. Physiotherapy is usually used to promote mobility.
