Health at your fingertips.

Hand surgery refers to the entire range of operations on the hand. This includes hand injuries, degenerative hand diseases, tumours, nerve diseases, tendon diseases and many more. As a substantial portion of these problems are nerve diseases and nerve injuries, hand surgeons often also perform nerve operations on the arms and legs, especially if a microscope is required. The most common hand diseases include trigger finger (also known as “snapping finger”), carpal tunnel syndrome (constriction of the nerves in the wrist), arthrosis of the finger, Dupuytren's disease (scarred cords in the palm of the hand, and bending of the finger if the fingers are also affected).

Hand injuries often affect bones, tendons or nerves that are handled in part under the microscope. In the case of complex injuries, a skin flap or transplantation can be necessary to deal with the skin defect.

In practice, the hand surgeon generally provides conservative treatments for hand diseases, often combined with targeted cortisone infiltrations or special splints.
